This is an imaginative book with lots...
of excitement, mixed in with an accurate historical depiction of life on the Erie Canal in Central New York. I would recommend this to any person, young or old, who would like to read about the history of the Erie Canal!

Excellent Historical Fiction!
A reviewer, interested in historical fiction. 08/14/2007
This is a fascinating book that takes place in the mid 1800's along the Erie Canal.  It follows Rose's trip from Albany to Utica, NY. Along the way she meets many interesting characters. The historical facts are accurate and there is a timeline, map, and glossary in the back. My whole family enjoyed this book, including my teenage boys. We hope there is a sequel
!

Teacher-recommended !---A reviewer, an elementary teacher, 07/13/2007
This book not only entertains young readers, but it also gives them a glimpse into the history of the region. They will also practice using a glossary as they check out the meanings of unfamiliar historical terms. I think the book lends itself to a sequel, as my students who have already heard or read this book are wondering what Rose's next adventure will be. I would recommend Erie Canal Cousins for third grade and above.

What people are saying about THREE WEEKS IN UTICA:

Wonderful Book
Dori Clark, an avid reader, 08/16/2008

Not only is this book very entertaining, but the reader will learn about the history of Utica. I grew up in Utica and learned many new facts about the city. The author has done some amazing research about our ancestors and the historic sites when Utica was just starting out as a town, then a city. The storyline followed the author's first book and continued on in 'Rose's life'. I anxiously await her next book.

Highly Recommended!

Having read this author's first book, Erie Canal Cousins, I looked forward to Three Weeks in Utica as a sequel. Although it is a children's historical novel, it is entertaining and informative for any age. It is well-written and holds the reader's interest. I recommend this second adventure of Rose Stewart to classroom teachers as a supplement to New York State history lessons.

“THREE WEEKS IN UTICA, book two in the Erie  Canal Cousins series, continues the adventures of a young girl in 1840. Young readers will enjoy Rose's realistic journal entries. They will also get a vivid picture of Utica in its early days, through the author's many accurate descriptions of activities that young and old alike were involved in back then.I recommend this book to readers of all ages, for its story line, history, and humor.”

"Following Rose through the first two books in this series reveals the simple way of life in 1840. Innocent fun and adventure combined with interesting Utica history makes THREE WEEKS IN UTICA a great read even for the most reluctant reader. Can’t wait to see where Rose takes us next!”
